Historical Fact #3 - TVSR Main Gate

N 42.32127        W 071.98903

Elevation:1,012'

This gateway was built from the Fall of 1974 through the Spring of 1975. It was built by Troop 2 of Worcester, with Mr. Jim McGrail and possibly other adult leaders supervising Scouts in certain aspects of the construction.

The pipes used in this construction were natural gas pipes that had a rubber coating burned or stripped off. A piece of leftover pipe, with the yellow rubber cover intact, currently remains alongside the Coghlin Storage Building.

The first “Treasure Valley” sign on this gateway was made from a board milled from a white pine tree that was cut down near the Snake River Bridge.  That sign was replaced by one hand carved by Mr. Roy Bourgault, who held various council offices and was a master wood carver.

The current sign was funded by the Treasure Valley Alumni Association.  Made of long-lasting composite material, it was fabricated by Mr. John Cloutier of Global Signs in Southbridge, MA. John attended TVSR as a Scout with Troop 161 Sturbridge.  This sign was installed in June 2020, just before the “summer that wasn’t” due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The photo above was taken by Mr. Aaron Langlois, past chair of the Treasure Valley Alumni Association andVice President of Program for HNE Council in 2022-23.
